Naquela época, o veículo disponibilizava a assinantes do jornal impresso, que possuíam computadores pessoais, textos completos e resumos de artigos atuais, além das edições diárias.

New York Times, 1970

No Brasil, as empresas jornalísticas começaram a entrar na internet por meio de iniciativas isoladas, como as do Grupo O Estado de S. Paulo. No entanto, o primeiro jornal brasileiro a realizar uma cobertura completa no ambiente virtual foi o Jornal do Brasil, em 28 de maio de 1995.

Outros veículos que também passaram a integrar a rede foram: O Estado de Minas, Zero Hora, Diário de Pernambuco e Diário do Nordeste. Contudo, somente em 1996 foi lançado o Brasil Online, o primeiro jornal em tempo real, em língua portuguesa, da América Latina, atualmente conhecido na internet como Folha Online.
